Just to keep everyone in the loop regarding personnel for the 2023-24 school year, we are sad to announce that two of our staff members will not be returning on a regular basis for the 2023-24 school year.
Mrs. Melody Dragoo joined us five years ago as our science teacher for grades 3-8. When Mrs. Dragoo joined the SMS staff, her task was to bring real, hands-on science to our students. Mrs. Dragoo did just that, with project-based learning our students received excellent hands-on science learning opportunities and were pushed to excellence through the science fair. It is an understatement to say that Mrs. Dragoo's science students have dominated the Brown County Science Fair as well as District 17 Science fair for years. Mrs. Dragoo has had many students achieve "superior" ratings at the Ohio State Science Fair and several have even won scholarships. At this time Mrs. Dragoo has chosen to spend more time with her family as her daughter Mahayla will be entering college at Rio Grande and is part of the cheerleading team. Her son Will is entering his freshmen year at Ripley. We understand this was a difficult decision for Mrs. Dragoo, and wish her the best, and hope to still see her from time to time for special projects and events. Good luck Mrs. Dragoo!
Last summer SMS was in a bind looking for help at the Intervention Specialist and Title 1 positions. Mrs. Patty Dengler, a SMS parishioner came out of retirement to fill a critical need at SMS acting as our Title 1 teacher. Not only did Mrs. Dengler do a fantastic job helping our students through Title 1 services, Mrs. Dengler volunteered her time to help with special events at SMS such as our Veteran's Day and All Saints Day programs to name a few. Although she was only on staff for one year, Mrs. Dengler has become a values member of the SMS family and we appreciate all she has done to help our school. Mrs. Dengler has offered to continue to help out at SMS as needed and with some of our events. Thank you Mrs. Dengler for your support of SMS!
