SMS News

We hope everyone had a relaxing Easter Break, and are ready to finish the school year strong. It's wild to believe, but we only have 7 weeks left in the school year. We still have a lot to accomplish this year, but take it from me (I've been doing this a long time) these next two months will fly by.

Here is a look at some things you need to remember this week!

Monday (Feast of the Annunciation)- This will be a busy day, getting back into the swing of things, and we will be dismissing early due to transportation issues brought about by the eclipse. We will dismiss at 1:30 tomorrow. There will be Georgetown and SMS bus service. We will also be sending eclipse glasses home with students so they can safely view the eclipse with their families.

Thursday- Our 8th grade students have the opportunity to visit St. Patrick's High School in Maysville to see what they have to offer. They will return for classes in the afternoon. Permission slips should be returned to the office no later than Wednesday.

Looking ahead...

  • April 18- Pre-2 Field Trip to Cincinnati Museum Center

  • April 21- 1st Communion (9:00 mass @ St. Michael)

  • April 21- Confirmation Practice (1:30 @ St. George)

  • April 22- Cincinnati Observatory visits SMS

  • April 24- Kona Ice

  • April 25- SMS Day at the Ballpark (7th & 8th)

  • April 26- Ripley Life Squad Presentation to Students

  • April 26- Spring Dance (5-8)

  • April 28- Confirmation (2:00 @ St. Peter in Chains Cathedral)

  • Week of April 29 (5th and 8th Grade State Testing)

I would also like to remind parents of students in grades 3-8 that homework / projects / tests will continue to be posted on our events page. Hopefully that is helping everyone to keep up with assignments.

We will resume tutoring this week as well for students in grades 3-8. This is 100% free for all students. We do it every Tuesday and Thursday until 5:00 pm, and have received positive feedback. If you would like your child to come to tutoring, just send an email to let us know that he or she will be staying after school. We can work on homework, projects, or go over a lesson/skill they are struggling with.

I know that the weather has been chilly lately, but traditionally, we have allowed students to wear uniform shorts after Easter Break. So starting tomorrow, uniform shorts are allowed. Speaking of uniforms, I noticed we got a little loose before break with wearing spirit wear as uniforms. It is usually in the form of wearing non-uniform approved sweatshirts, and quarter zips. Please help us out by making sure your children are in uniform.

EDCHOICE NEWS

We still have a handful of families who have not turned in everything for EdChoice for next year. Please get this stuff as soon as possible. If you are renewing a scholarship, all you have to do is turn in the renewal application and a utility bill.

If your scholarship is a renewal AND you already receive the full scholarship ($6165), then you do not need to complete income verification. You will receive the full scholarship again.

If your scholarship is a renewal AND you did not receive the entire scholarship this year, it is EXTREMELY important that you re evaluate your income verification. If your Family Poverty Level percentage has decreased at all, it will be worth it for you redo the income verification. Factors that could change your Family Poverty Level percentage include the addition of family members (dependents) or decrease in income. Any amount not covered by the scholarship has to be accounted for, and although we will do all we can to help, we need all of our families doing all they can to meet our $6165 tuition.

If your child is new to the EdChoice Program, and have turned in your request application, utility bill and birth certificate, then you should be sure to complete your income verification to determine the scholarship you will receive.

If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to contact me, I will be happy to walk you through the process.

Have a great week everyone!
