After a thorough search, we are excited to announce our new staff members who will be joining the SMS family for the 2024-25 school year! Please make our new team members feel welcome!
Mrs. Lisa Teegarden - 2nd Grade
“I am excited to be the Second-Grade teacher at SMS this year. I am so blessed to have this opportunity!
This year marks my 40th year of teaching. I have taught in Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Northern California. I have taught Kindergarten, First Grade, Second Grade, Fourth Grade, and Seventh and Eighth Grade Language Arts.
My husband Hal and I have three grown children, Leslie 41 years old, who works for Google and lives in Edgewater, MD. Leslie attended St. Patrick School as a child. Jared, our son, is 37 and works in Atlanta in the Green Energy field. Jared also attended St. Patrick as a child. Our youngest child, Haleigh, aged 29, is an attorney in Wilmington, NC. Haleigh also attended St. Mary School in Richmond, VA, as well as St. Michael Episcopal when she was in Elementary School.
All three children had the opportunity to attend European International Schools when our family lived in Switzerland as Hal worked as an expat for Philip Morris International. We recently returned “home” to Mason County and have enjoyed getting reacquainted with old friends and are truly looking forward to being a part of the exciting changes in the area.
Teaching is my passion, and I can truthfully say that it has been my life’s work. I am so happy to become a part of this wonderful community and staff.” - Mrs. Teegarden
Mrs. Cassie Moon- 3rd and 4th Grade ELA / Social Studies
“Hello! I am Mrs. Moon. I am your new third and fourth grade English Language Arts and Social Studies teacher.
I have lived in Brown County all of my life. I graduated from Eastern High School, and Southern Hills CTC for Early Childhood Education-where I obtained my child development credential. I graduated from the University of Cincinnati with my Associates degree and Western Governors University with my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.
I have experience with children of all ages. I worked as a preschool/transitional kindergarten teacher at a learning center, a one-on-one paraprofessional as well as working with reading interventions for kindergarten through fourth grade at Sardinia Elementary.
I am happily married to my husband Austin. Together we have a lively one year old daughter named Maelynn. I am very close with my grandma, who is my best friend. If I’m not spending time at my grandmas then you will find me at the lake, catfishing with my husband.
Working with children has always been my passion. From the time I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, I always said a teacher (as well as a mommy). I love watching children learn and grow. Seeing their faces light up when they learn something new is one of my favorite things about working with children.
I am so excited to be joining the SMS team, and I cannot wait to see what this year holds!” - Mrs. Moon

I am currently the Athletic Trainer at Georgetown High School and work as a PTA during the day. I have been married since 2008 to Steve and we have a 14-year-old son named Colt. We are active members of St. George Church in Georgetown. We have a farm in Georgetown and are very active with 4H, Sports, and the Antique machinery show. I am a big animal lover so you will hear lots about my pets, I'm sure! I'm excited for this new adventure and look forward to working with SMS students!” - Mrs. Gaskin
Mrs. Alli Hamilton- 5th-8th Grade Science
"I am excited to join SMS this year as the 5-8th grade science teacher. I have 16 years of teaching experience in the 5th and 8th grade classroom. I completed my Bachelor of Science in Middle School Education degree from Morehead State University. I completed a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Dayton. Although my most recent teaching has been in mathematics, I am excited to bring hands-on learning to the science classroom.
I am a lifelong resident of Brown County; graduate of Eastern Local School. I now live in Ripley with my husband, Adam and our daughter, Averie. As a family, we raise beef cattle and are board members for the Buckeye Valley Beef Cooperative. Being on the farm, riding on the side by side, and taking trips to the creek with my family brings me so much joy. I often say we have built a life we don't need a vacation from.
I am excited to teach science and learn new things alongside the students this coming school year!" - Mrs. Hamilton

I have a son, Ross, who will be a freshman who loves showing pigs across the state of Ohio as well as numerous national shows. This takes up most of my free time but wouldn’t change it for anything. We also enjoy traveling and spending time with family. I have lived in Brown County the majority of my life. I graduated from Georgetown High School and then onto Morehead State University for my Bachelor’s Degree. I also obtained a Master’s Degree from Morehead State and the University of Louisville.
I am looking forward to this new role and can’t wait to meet my new coworkers and students!"

The past 3 years, I have spent working with my husband, Logan in our family construction business, and raising our two girls, Scarlett and Stella. In my free time l love to travel, especially warm sunny destinations, and work around our family farm!
I have always had a passion for helping others succeed and grow, which is why I chose my career in education and have continued to volunteer. I am excited to be back in the classroom part-time helping the students of St. Michael!” - Mrs. Fetters
