Good afternoon SMS Families,
We have had a great first week back in 2025, and it's hard to believe we are over half way through January. Things will be coming up on us quickly! Please be sure to read our newsletters and keep an eye out for communication from the school.
We are starting to see more and more tickets being turned in for the SMS $10K Giveaway. We have over 1500 tickets out, and so far have $5,840 turned in. We have a long way to go, and we have time, but please don't wait until the last minute. Remember each family is responsible for at least their original ten tickets, but if you sell 30, your 2025-26 registration fee will be waived. If you sell more than that, you are only helping the school even more!
Parents of students in grades 3-8, please check with your children on progress with their Science Fair project. Although much work on projects has been done at school, there is a component that students are expected to do on their own. You should have received communication from Mrs. Hamilton, Ms. Kacy, and Mrs. Ashton regarding deadlines, etc. The Science fair is February 7th.
Looking ahead at next week, we will be out of school on Monday in observation of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We will be MAP testing with grades 2-8 on Tuesday and Thursday, and AimsWeb testing with K-1 on Wednesday and Friday. On Tuesday, there will be no Ripley bus service in the morning or afternoon. Please make the appropriate transportation arrangements. On Wednesday, our 8th grade will tour the Southern Hills Career and Technical Center. Permission slips were sent home on Thursday, January 16.
Looking a little further ahead, Catholic Schools Week is the week of January 26. We have lots of fun planned that week, keep an eye out for more on that later. Some of our second graders will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time on Saturday, February 8. Also coming up, the end of the 2nd trimester which is on February 7, with parent teacher conferences on February 13. We will also have a four day weekend around President's Day. Other events in February include Spring pictures on the 19th and the Father-Daughter dance on the 21st. Due to Easter being later than usual, our first Fish Fry isn't until March 7, but keep it on your radar!
