International Paper continues to be a tremendous community partner for St. Michael School. I.P. does tremendous work in the community offering grants to local non profits. Each year they provide our classrooms with Butterfly Kits which allow our students to study, and learn about the metamorphoses that butterflies go through in their lives.
We at SMS have also been blessed over the years that International Paper has provided funding to help us with several projects to make our campus a better, more safe learning environment for our students. For instance, they provided the funding to update our playground that had fallen into disrepair. They also provided funding for us to complete some concrete work that provided a safe walkway between our main building and our annex, where as before it was easy to trip over several areas of uneven concrete.
This year IP provided funding to help SMS update its two main entry doors. These doors that go into the office were decades old and made of wood. Not nearly as secure as doors of a school need to be as school security standards are completely different than they were when our building was originally constructed in 1923. With International Paper's help, we have installed two, steel doors with key strikes at the entry to the school office, adding a greater level of security to our school.
