greenacres

There is a relatively new learning opportunity available to students in our own back yard!

From the Greenacres website: Greenacres gives schools the opportunity to explore preserved grounds and facilities and experience a new perspective on the world. Field trips to Greenacres are free and can be customized to help reinforce ideas that are being taught in the classroom. From learning to appreciate the fine arts, to discovering the secrets hiding in the local ecosystems, or learning how to care for farm animals, there’s a Greenacres field trip for everyone.

Our fifth and sixth grade classes will visit Greenacres on Tuesday, March 18. The fifth grade will learn about ecosystems, maps, and topography, while the sixth grade will learn about rocks, minerals, and soil.

Our third and fourth grade will visit Greenacres on Thursday, March 20. The third grade will learn about wildlife tracking, natural resources, and life cycles. The fourth grade will learn about fossils, erosion and weathering.

For both trips, we will leave SMS at 9:30, via the SMS bus. We will be there from 10:00-1:00. Students should pack a lunch and will eat their lunches on site. We will return to SMS at approximately 1:30.

We will send home permission slips today. The only cost to our families associated with this trip will be a $5 transportation fee per student. Slips and fees should be returned as soon as possible.

Thank you!
